Abstract
In the 1990s, over two-thirds of children with malignancy are expected to be long term survivors. This success in therapy is predominantly due to the chemosensitivity of childhood fumours as well as co-ordinated multi-disciplinary care through the use of protocols and designated children's cancer centres. In view of the pivotal importance of chemotherapy in childhood malignancies in the future therapy can be improved considerably by exploring ways to optimise treatment either by introducting new agents or utilising existing drugs better.
