Volume 91, the third quarter edition of the British Medical Bulletin, for 2009, comes at a time when the Bulletin has just gained a marked improvement in its citation index, which is very pleasing. Once again it has a wide variety of reviews on a series of fascinating topics.
The first review is on The ethics of Public Health Practice: balancing private and public interest (page 7) by Shickle from the University of Leeds in the UK.
He says that Public Health is involved in the protection and promotion of the health of the public via policy and legislation, population health needs analysis, commissioning and evaluation of services and interventions and public health programmes, e.g. screening, immunization. For the review, he studied publications discussing ethical issues in public health, reporting research on public opinion or describing public health policy.
